Abidjan

Abidjan is sometimes referred to as the “Paris of West Africa”. The Metropolitan area of Abidjan is situated on the southern coast of Côte d’Ivoire on the Ébrié Lagoon. The area is divided into two parts, namely, The Plateau which is the central part of the city and includes the district of Cocody, DeuxPlateaux and the slum area of Adjamé on the North. The area is mainly inhabited by some of the richest people of Abidjan such as businessmen, diplomats and celebrities. To the north of the Lagoon lies the poorest slum area of Adjamé. Other areas included in Abidjan district are Treichville and Marcory on the south, Abobo-Doume and Yopougon on the west and Boulay Island occupying the middle of the lagoon. A little southward is Port Bouët, which is home to an international air and sea port.

Climate

Abidjan experiences a climate, according to the Köppen climate classification. Abidjan has nonconsecutive rainy seasons (precipitation above 60 millimeters (2.4 in) with a long rainy season from March to July and a short rainy season from September to December, and three dry months (January, February and August).

When to Travel

Abidjan experiences a tropical monsoon climate all year round and most months from May through July are showered with heavy rain. Avoid the above said months and Abidjan is a pleasant place with rain gods always looking down, but it’s not that disturbing.
